Margaret Gallagher was born, raised and has lived in her 280-year-old, Grade A listed, thatch cottage in Co. Fermanagh, for over eight decades. She has lived this unique way her entire life, watching the weather change. She tells us of the changes that have come across the land she lives off, from the growth of the Internet, the constant push towards climate catastrophe and how no matter how small her carbon footprint might be she is still unable to escape the hypocrisy that covers the landscape in its viscous shadow. Shot in Ultraviolet with a converted full spectrum Sony A6000 and UV lens kit, the film visualises an uncanny version of the landscape that when combined with Margaret’s unique, intimate and honest point of view of her shared life with the earth attaches a claustrophobic sense of melancholy to our current trajectory. Throughout the US and Europe this 'withdrawn' way of living is on the rise, with projections of 11-12% of people to be living completely 'off-grid' by 2035. Margaret's simple existence will soon become a blueprint for a way of life that may just be the answer to slowing down the end of the world that hovers on the horizon, and she couldn’t be happier about that.
